The improvement in pain and function resulting from the use of bone marrow MSCs for knee osteoarthritis patients in this recent article in The American Journal of Sports Medicine echoes the positive results we are finding in TMJ patients we have treated using BMAC (Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate). We are still collecting data, but the early results are very encouraging.
The article concludes: “Intra-articular injections of MSCs without any adjuvant therapies improves pain and function for osteoarthritis. Significantly better outcomes were obtained with the use of bone marrow MSCs as compared with adipose MSCs and with the use of cultured MSCs as opposed to uncultured MSCs.”
